Virginia Guard confirms death of Guardsman

RICHMOND, Va. - Maj. Gen. Robert B. Newman, Jr., the Adjutant General of Virginia confirmed that Virginia Guardsman Spc. David E. Lambert, 39, of Cedar Bluff, Va., died Oct. 26, 2007, in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device.
Newman said, “The loss of this brave soldier is felt deeply by his fellow Guardsmen. I know that all Virginians share the grief felt by his family, and I ask for our fellow citizens to keep Spc. Lambert and his family in their prayers. “
Newman went on to say that care for Lambert’s family and loved ones will be the focus of the Virginia National Guard and that the Virginia National Guard will support and stand by those affected by this tragic loss.
Lambert was assigned to the 237th Engineer Company, 276th Engineer Battalion, 91st Troop Command of the Virginia National Guard, located in West Point, Va. Lambert deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
