STAUNTON, Va. - Soldiers of the 222nd Support Detachment, Virginia Army National Guard, will return to their home station on May 4, 2003. They are scheduled to arrive at the Thomas D. Howie Armory, 500 Thornrose Ave., Staunton, Va between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2003.
These soldiers were ordered to active federal service on January 17, 2003 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, this country's war on terrorism. The soldiers arrived at their mobilization station, Ft. Bragg, N. C. on January 21, 2003. While at Ft. Bragg they successfully completed administrative processing and basic combat training in preparation for deployment. Combat refresher training included weapons qualification, and chemical, nuclear, and biological protection. The unit's mission is to provide water storage and distribution in hot, arid climate.
There will be a brief public ceremony at the Thomas D. Howie Armory to welcome the soldiers of the 222nd Support Detachment when they arrive. There will be an opportunity to interview soldiers and their family members prior to the ceremony.
