Engineer and Chemical Companies released from active federal service

BLACKSTONE, Va. - Maj. Gen. Claude Williams, the Adjutant General of Virginia, announced today that orders had been received releasing approximately 230 soldiers of the Virginia Army National Guard from active federal service.

Approximately 110 soldiers from the 189th Engineer Company entered active federal service on January 17, 2003 at Big Stone Gap, Va. These Virginia Army National Guard soldiers traveled to Ft. Eustis, Va. where they prepared for overseas deployment. The unit was certified as fully prepared for deployment while at Ft. Eustis. Soldiers of the 189th Engineer Company are scheduled to return to Big Stone Gap on May 24th and be released from active federal service on June 7, 2003.

Approximately 120 soldiers from the 229th Chemical Company entered active federal service on February 24, 2003 at Roanoke, Va. These Virginia Army National Guard soldiers traveled to Ft. Lee, Va. where they prepared for overseas deployment. The unit was certified as fully prepared for deployment while at Ft. Lee. Soldiers of the 229th Chemical Company will be released from active federal service on June 7, 2003. The actual date the unit is scheduled to return to its home station in Roanoke, Va. has not been announced.
