BLACKSTONE, Va. - Maj. Gen. Claude A. Williams, the Adjutant General of Virginia, announced that orders have been received retaining Detachment 26, Operational Support Airlift Command on active duty. It had been announced earlier this week that the unit was being released from active federal service on May 21, 2003. The unit is currently serving overseas in the U. S. Central Command area of responsibility.
Eight soldiers of Detachment 26, Operational Support Airlift Command entered active federal service on March 3, 2003 for one year and deployed to Ft. Benning, Ga. on March 6, 2003. The unit's mission is to provide fixed wing operational airlift support. The unit operates the C-12 Huron.
