Adjutant General reacts to soldier's indictment

by Lt. Col. Chester C. Carter, III
Virginia National Guard Public Affairs Officer

BLACKSTONE, Va. - Maj. Gen. Claude Williams, the adjutant general of Virginia, issued a statement today regarding a Stafford County grand jury indictment that Thomas Hix used a National Guard computer for illegal activity. The grand jury indicted Hix on two counts of attempted indecent liberties with a minor and two counts of using a computer to solicit a juvenile.

Williams said that under no circumstance would this type of behavior be condoned. He said that long-standing policies are in place that strictly prohibit the type of activity that Hix is accused of. He went on to say that if Hix is found guilty of the indictments he is clearly in violation of those policies. Williams said the Virginia National Guard is constantly working to upgrade systems to assure that information management equipment is not abused.
