Youth programs looking for adult volunteers, hosting teen training

From Staff Reports

FORT PICKETT, Va. — The Virginia National Guard Youth Program is looking for adult volunteers and is also looking for teens who want to become “legendary.”

Motivated and energetic people are needed to become involved with the Virginia Guard's youth and teens. Benefits of volunteering include free training, certifications, and endless gratitude.

The Youth Program hosts and supports numerous youth events each year. These events include summer camps, day camps, teen trainings, Yellow Ribbon events, and Operation Military Kids camps. Volunteers are needed in various areas to include, but not limited to: crafts, photography, sports, and leadership development.

Interested applicants must be at least 18 years or older to apply. Applicants do not have to be affiliated with the Virginia National Guard. Interested applicants must complete the attached application.  Application is also available for downloaded on the Joint Services Support website at www.jointservicessupport.org. Please note that you must login on the JSS website in order to access the application. Completed application must be received by Feb. 23, 2011.

The Virginia National Guard Youth Program is also pleased to announce its upcoming teen training, “Be Legendary.”

The “Be Legendary” workshop inspires teens to do little acts in life that affect positive change in the world. Being legendary doesn't mean being famous. Being legendary means leading a life that is legendary on a day-to-day basis that creates a better world for all of us. The “Be Legendary” workshop gives teens very specific tools needed to move forward and lead a legendary life every day.

Additionally, teens will experience SkateNation Plus in Richmond and have an opportunity to participate in laser tag, public ice skating session, and the huge arcade for an hour and a half after completing the “Be Legendary” workshop.

Dependent teens of the Virginia Air and Army National Guard are eligible to apply. Interested teens must complete the attached application. Registration is also available on the Joint Services Support website at www.jointservicessupport.org. Completed registration must be received
by Feb. 18, 2011.
