February 7, 2003, 16:28 ESTMP Company ordered to active duty
BLACKSTONE, Va. - Maj. Gen. Claude Williams, the adjutant general of Virginia, announced that approximately 120 soldiers of the 229th Military Police Company located in Virginia Beach, Va will enter active federal service at their home armory on February 10, 2003. The Virginia Army National Guard soldiers will travel to their mobilization station, Ft. Eustis, Va., at a date to be announced.
This mobilization is in support of the United States' homeland security response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. These soldiers will be ordered to active federal service for a one-year period beginning February 10, 2003. The Secretary of the Army may extend this period an additional 12 months based on operational needs or other requirements. The soldiers' mission and deployment location were not provided. Williams declined to speculate on what the mission or deployment location of these units may be.
