BLACKSTONE, Va. - Maj. Gen. Claude Williams, the adjutant general of Virginia, announced that approximately 170 soldiers of the 1032nd Transportation Company located in Gate City and Bristol, Va will enter active federal service at their home armories on February 7, 2003. The Virginia Army National Guard soldiers will travel to their mobilization station, Ft. Eustis, Va., after a short period of duty at their home armories. The soldiers of the 1032nd Transportation Company are completing their pre-mobilization processing at Ft. Pickett this week.
This mobilization is in support of the United States' homeland security response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. These soldiers will be ordered to active federal service for a one-year period beginning February 7, 2003. The Secretary of the Army may extend this period an additional 12 months based on operational needs or other requirements. The soldiers' mission and deployment location were not provided. Williams declined to speculate on what the mission or deployment location of these units may be.
