Change of command for 29th Infantry Division announced
BLACKSTONE, Va. - Maj. Gen. Claude A. Williams, the adjutant general of Virginia, announced today that Brig. Gen. Arthur H. Wyman will assume command of the Army National Guard's 29th Infantry Division (Light) from Maj. Gen. Daniel E. Long on September 1, 2004. Long is being reassigned as the Deputy Adjutant General, Joint Forces Headquarters - Virginia.
Wyman is currently assigned as the Assistant Division Commander, 29th Infantry Division (Light). He assumed that position on July 29, 2000. As Assistant Division Commander he is responsible for assisting in the command, control and supervision of the 29th Division with emphasis on training. The 29th Division, or the "Blue and Gray" as the Division is known, is the only reserve component light infantry division. With headquarters at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, the 29th Division has elements located Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina and Connecticut.
Wyman began his military career in 1966. He was commissioned a second lieutenant upon graduation from Artillery Officer Candidate School in 1967. Following active duty, Wyman entered the Massachusetts Army National Guard in 1974 and served in a variety of command and staff positions at battalion, brigade and state headquarters level. He has commanded the 1st Squadron, 110th Armored Cavalry, 26th (YANKEE) Infantry Division and the 26th (YANKEE) Infantry Brigade (L), 29th Infantry Division (L), Massachusetts Army National Guard.
