A group of Iraqi Freedom veterans have joined together to try and get approval from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles for a special Iraqi Freedom license plate. Organizers hope the plates will be approved by the General Assembly in June, but they need support to make the dream a reality.

“Every war has its heroes, and the War in Iraq is no different,” said Rusty McGuire, chairman of the Iraq Freedom Veteran Plate Project and a former member of the Virginia National Guard. “Many of us have lost friends and comrades serving our country. We want to honor their sacrifice so we decided to carry that message daily with a specialty plate issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles of Virginia.  Just like in combat we cannot do this alone.”

McGuire explained that in order for DMV to approve this plate they need 350 pre-paid applications of $10.00 each.

“We are asking you to show your pride by filling out an application for an Iraqi Freedom Veteran license plate. We will never forget those who gave their today so that we can have our tomorrow. So we are also extending this plate to immediate family members of those killed in action. Please join us and together we can carry on the memory of those brave souls.
