“It’s the least we could do for the unit,” said Kilgore, from the 1st District, who presented the resolution to the unit. “We are proud, in Southwest Virginia, to see one of our own set the standard across the nation. It is a small thing the General Assembly could do for these Soldiers.”
The ceremony was followed be a reception with the Soldiers and family members. The unit will proudly display the resolution plaque in the halls of Gate City Armory.
The 1032nd Transportation Company won the Connelly Award in the National Guard Field Kitchen Category.
Soldiers from the unit prepared their meal for the competition at Fort Pickett in October 2008. They competed against National Guard units from six other regions across the country and were judged in 11 different categories that ranged from sanitation to the quality of the food.
