The Adjutant General's holiday message
By Maj. Gen. Robert B. Newman, Jr
The Adjutant General of Virginia
The Virginia National Guard, Civilian Employees, Families and Friends,
As millions of Virginians make final preparations for their upcoming holiday plans, I'd like to take a moment to recognize and thank the brave men and
women of the Virginia National Guard who are still providing support to
their fellow citizens in the wake of one of the largest snowstorms to hit Virginia in years. In this season of giving, these citizen-soldiers aretaking their oaths to protect Virginians quite literally, spending time away from family and friends to support their neighbors and fellow citizens in their hour of need.
As in years past, 2009 has been a year of high operational tempo and continuous mobilizations and demobilizations. Our Soldiers and Airmen have excelled at their challenging yet vital missions throughout the world and at home with state missions. As we approach 2010 and continued deployments, I offer my thanks to those who have stepped up to the challenge of mobilization as well as those preparing to depart.
During this joyous time of year, I once again encourage you to thank your family for their support of your commitment to commonwealth and country. This holiday season reminds us of the importance of family, and those Guardsmen who don't have the luxury of spending time with family this year deserve our thoughts and prayers. Please be safe during the well deserved break and enjoy the time spent with friends and family. I look forward to our continued excellence as we start 2010 together with the same high speed
goals as in years past.
Merry Christmas from my family to yours, happy holidays and Happy New Year.
ROBERT B. NEWMAN, JR., Maj Gen, VaANG
