34th Civil Support Team receives charter

LACKSTONE, Va. - Maj. Gen. Claude Williams, the adjutant general of Virginia, and Brig. Gen. Robert Seifert, chief of staff of the Virginia Air National Guard, presented the members of the 34th Weapons of Mass Destruction (Civil Support Team) with their unit charter, presented on behalf of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. The charter outlines the unit's mission and states the unit is capable of fulfilling its mission requirements.

The Department of Defense certified the 34th Civil Support Team as fully mission capable this past January. This certification means the team is fully ready to assist civil authorities respond to a domestic weapon of mass destruction incident, and possess the requisite skills, training and equipment to be proficient in all mission requirements. The 34th Civil Support Team is stationed at Fort Pickett. There are currently 21 members of the Virginia Army and Air National Guard assigned to the unit.
