Our Mission

The mission of the Virginia National Guard Family and Youth Programs Office is to establish and facilitate ongoing communication, involvement, support, and recognition between National Guard Families and the National Guard in a partnership that promotes the best in both.  We are achieving this task through education, outreach services, and partnerships facilitated by leveraging resources, training, and capitalizing on new capabilities, concepts, and technological advances.

News:

Program helps train educators for meeting needs of military children

With over 31 military installations and 48 National Guard armories, Virginia has one of the largest concentrations of military servicemembers in the United States. Many of these servicemembers have school-aged children who have needs unique to military children. The Virginia National Guard and the Military Child Education Coalition are training educators to meet those needs.

The Virginia National Guard Family Programs Office, in conjunction with MCEC, will be conducting a free professional development conference for educators and school counselors in Charlottesville, Va., on April 15 and 16 and is still accepting applications.

The conference, called Supporting Children of the National Guard and Reserve Institute, is a professional development program for educators and professionals designed to reach out in a support network to the children and families of not only the National Guard and Reserve but to active-component children and their families as well.
